When I was young, and living at my grandmother's house, Shake 'n Bake was almost always in the cabinet. Because it was so simple we used it often, and mostly on chicken breasts.

After I got married I was surprised that my husband actually liked it too. We would frequently use it on pork chops or chicken thighs.

Then, there are the times when you want to throw together a quick meal but your stash of the box stuff has run out.

By using a combination of spices mixed with a base of bread crumbs and panko, this Homemade Shake and Bake works perfectly!

In fact, I think I like it better. For super-easy cleanup, just mix up all the ingredients in a plastic bag.

After you have mixed up your own coating, simply add the chicken or pork, and give it a shake.

Now it is ready to pop in the oven.

Hi! After looking at the S & B ingredients, I decided to find a diy and this was great! I halved the breadcrumbs and added half a cup of cornflake crumbs! Was awesome!

I use the Italian bread crumbs only, no panko. That is just my preference and I feel like the bread crumbs stick to the chicken better than the panko. I just add a sprinkle or two of Italian seasoning since it's already in the bread crumbs,I made up a batch and store it in a mason jar with the date made. It's really great to have it made up when you are in a hurry! This is great!

Hi! Panko is a little bit different than bread crumbs. It has a slightly different texture. From what I have read, panko is made from a different type of bread and does not include any of the bread crust. They can be interchangeable, however, in this recipe, I prefer the combination of the two. I hope this helps.
