Mahavir Jayanti is an important religious festival celebrated by Jains to celebrate the birth of Lord Mahavir. He was the founder and the last Tirthankara of Jainism.
Lord Mahavir
was born as Vardhamana Mahavira around 6th century BCE in the ancient kingdom of Vaishali, which is now known as Bihar, in India. Mahavir’s teachings promoted the concept and values of non-violence, truthfulness, non-possessiveness, and self-discipline.

Jain temples
for special ceremonies and poojas, like the abhishek of Lord Mahavir’s idol.
Jains also organize various camps and charities on this day, like blood donation camps, and distribution of food to needy people. Many people do a day-long fast on this day to show their respect towards Lord Mahavir, and spend their time in meditation and learning about the teachings of Mahavir. The homes, and Jain temples are decorated beautifully on this day using colourful fresh flowers, flags, and banners. This day holds a great significance among the Jain community and a time to remember the teachings of Lord Mahavir and follow a path of compassion and spirituality.
